Menopause Program

Hormonal transition is a natural phase of life, but symptoms and long-term metabolic changes do not need to be unmanaged.  Select hormone therapies are covered under MSP.

The Menopause Program at Luminary Health provides structured, medically guided support through perimenopause, menopause, and postmenopause. Care is individualized, education-focused, and rooted in informed decision-making.

Understanding the Transition

Understanding the Transition

Menopause is defined as the absence of menstrual periods for 12 consecutive months. Perimenopause may begin years earlier and is characterized by fluctuating and gradually declining levels of estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone, and adrenal hormones.

Hormonal shifts may contribute to:

  • Hot flashes and night sweats
  • Sleep disruption
  • Mood changes and anxiety
  • Brain fog and memory changes
  • Weight gain and insulin resistance
  • Rising cholesterol and metabolic changes
  • Loss of muscle mass and bone density
  • Vaginal dryness and urinary symptoms
  • Hair thinning and skin changes

Risk for cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, and metabolic dysfunction increases after menopause, making monitoring and prevention important.

Program Structure

Comprehensive Assessment

Care begins with a detailed intake, full health history, and review of current symptoms and goals.

Hormone and Laboratory Testing
Blood work is required. Hormone testing may include blood, saliva, and/or urine testing, depending on clinical indication.

Urine-based testing may assess:

  • Cortisol patterns (4-point analysis)
  • Estrogen metabolism and detoxification pathways
  • Estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, cortisol and their metabolites
  • Methylation status
  • OAT’s (organic acid markers)

Additional testing is ordered as needed based on symptoms and health history.

Individualized Treatment Plan

Following a comprehensive lab review, an individualized Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) protocol may be initiated when appropriate.

Additional support may include:

  • Targeted nutraceutical supplementation
  • IV therapy when indicated
  • Nutrition and metabolic support
  • Weight management strategies
  • Pelvic floor assessment (including Emsella® when appropriate)
  • Additional functional testing as required

Treatment decisions are based on individual health history, family history, and risk profile.

BHRT THERAPY

Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT)

Luminary Health prescribes bioidentical hormones when clinically appropriate. These hormones are structurally identical to those naturally produced by the body and differ from synthetic hormone formulations used in older therapies and birth control preparations.

Therapy may include estrogen, progesterone, DHEA and/or testosterone depending on individual needs.

BHRT DELIVERY METHODS

Delivery methods may include transdermal creams or gels, patches, oral micronized progesterone when appropriate, injections, and pellet therapy. The choice of hormone, dose, and delivery route is individualized based on clinical assessment. Safety considerations, risk factors, and ongoing monitoring are reviewed before treatment is initiated.

Monitoring and Follow-Up

Follow-up appointments occur every 3–6 months to assess symptom response and treatment efficacy. Blood work and hormone monitoring are repeated annually, or more frequently when indicated, to ensure safe and appropriate dosing. Treatment plans are adjusted as needed based on clinical response.

Program Focus

The Menopause Program is built on informed consent and patient education, individualized risk assessment, and evidence-informed hormone prescribing. Care includes ongoing metabolic and cardiovascular monitoring and is designed to support long-term quality of life, helping women restore vitality, mental clarity, and enjoyment in daily life. The approach is collaborative and communication-based, with an emphasis on clarity and shared decision-making.
